The popularity of dance groups in the Philippine entertainment scene soared high during the 1990s but as the millennial era approached, their fame started to fade.

Manoeuvers, Streetboys, Universal Motion Dancers, Abztract Dancers were the groups who really made it big that time.

Where are their members now and what happened to them? Here is a look back in the showbiz career of 90’s popular dance groups in the country.

Manoeuvers

The groups started with the name WEA Dancers in 1985 but it was change to Manoeuvers when they were already under Genesis management.

With the aid of Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, the group even gained popularity as the backup dancers of the singer/dancer.

When their fame subsided, the only member who remained in showbiz is Joshua Zamora who did some TV shows and movies.

Streetboys

Under the management of famous director Chito Rono, the group gained wider scope of audience through their smash hit “Boom Tiyaya in 1997.

The group was a mainstay in Kapamilya’s Sunday variety show and this made them a household name during that time.

Some of their members such as Spencer Reyes and Danilo Barrios also had acting stints.

Now, the member of the dance group who were able to prolong their showbiz career are Vhong Navarro and Jhong Hilario who are both currently in ‘It’s Showtime’.

Universal Motion Dancers

Also called as UMD, the group started as backup dancers in a noontime show in 1990 and a year after that, they appeared regularly in ‘That’s Entertainment’.

Some members also ventured in acting such as the James and Jim Salas, and Miggy Eugenio Tanchanco.

Currently, some of the members have guest appearances in TV once in a while.

Abztract Dancers

In 1995, the group was formed dancer/choreographer Zay Villavert. Abztract Dancers appeared regularly in ‘That’s Entertainment’ and ‘Eat Bulaga’.

Some of its members also ventured into acting such Dino Guevarra and Sherwin Ordonez.

Among the dance groups which became popular during the 1990s, this one did not earned fame due to any dance hit but because it has a prominent member, Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes who is still active in showbiz until now.
