So here are the “lesser-known” facts about them:

  • There were more people from Germany compared to any country who booked their travels to England, just to attend the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Well in fact, the British Royal Family is a branch of Herman dynasty, Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. But the real reason why was that many young women from Germany want to see their crush, Prince William.
  • The real and correct name of Prince Harry is Henry Charles Albert David, but is always referred to as “Harry”.
  • Prince Edward’s title as “Earl of Wessex” was recreated uniquely for him during his marriage. Wessex is derived from “West-Saxons“, one of the main kingdoms of Anglo-Saxons, which cover South and South-West England.
  • The Queen has nine thrones in total: one at the House of the Lords, two in Westminster Abbey, and six in Buckingham Palace’s Throne Room.
  • Every couple is being sent a Royal telegram by the Queen on their 60th wedding anniversary.
  • Known for owning “corgis“, the Queen introduced their new dog breed, “dorgi”, it happens that one of her corgis was mated with one of the dachshunds of Princess Margaret.

  • The Queen was the first monarch to have her children educated in boarding schools. This is contrary to the traditional law, which is supposed to have them with Royal governesses and private teachers.
