Based on the news report, the 22-year-old dancer has recently applied to a prestigious contest – the Miss Minnesota USA pageant.

Mikayla was accepted which really made her happy. She is the first contestant with a Down Syndrome who has the chance to bring home the Miss USA crown.

Although it was not really so sure, the officials of the pageant expressed that she can also be the first candidate to compete in a bigger pageant – the Miss USA competition.

In an email sent to Today, the 22-year-old dancer expressed that she wants to show something to other young women who also have the same condition as hers.

“I want to be a model to other young woman with Down syndrome that they can do whatever they put their mind to,” she stated.

Based on the news report, Mikayla was born lacking a part of her esophagus and with epilepsy.

The medical doctors had doubt on whether she would be able to speak and walk just like the normal people.

According to the news report, opposite to what were possibly expected, Mikayla already learned to walk when she was just nine months old and at 13 months old she already began to talk.
