MUST-KNOW: Reminder/Warning From Expert About Organic Beauty Products

An expert from the Philippine Dermatological Society has a reminder and warning to all the consumers of organic beauty products.

The use of organic beauty products is one of the fads in the cosmetic and beauty industry right now, however an expert has a warning about this.

From chemical-based products, those beauty products enthusiasts turned to the labels which are said to be organic and all-natural.

This is from the assumption that natural substances are safer compared from the chemical being incorporated in a beauty product.

On the other hand, an expert still has a reminder to all the consumers of organic beauty products, based on the report published in ABS CBN News.

According to Dr. Gigi Lavadia, President of Philippine Dermatological Society, there can be a lot of false claims.

Consumers should not be easily deceived if a certain product claims that it is “non-toxic” and “safe”.

“A lot of side effects like irritation, contact dermatitis. Sa tingin naming, due to the side effects, meron ding mga steroids yun,” the doctor said as a warning.

Dr. Lavadia iterated that the most important thing to do by the users of these products is to check if the one they are using is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

This must be done especially those products which had “natural” on their labels but can be bought only in market stalls and on the internet.

“Pwede nilang i-research kung ang drug na yun or cosmetic na yun ay talagang FDA approved,” Dr. Lavidia reminded all the organic beauty products users.

She added that if the product already caused itchiness, redness and swelling, no time must be wasted and one should consult a dermatologist right away.

Previously, the authorities of FDA had already conducted series of raids against those stores which are selling unregistered products such as those with whitening substances, based on the report.
