President Duterte Refuses To Back Down On His Decision On Marcos’ Burial At The “Libingan ng mga Bayani”
President Rodrigo Duterte refused to back down on his decision to allow Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, despite Friday’s protests.
On Friday (November 25, 2016), the president insists that he’s just following the law upon allowing the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan. Duterte allowed the burial for acknowledging Marcos as a soldier and not being a dictator.
He also blamed the two previous Aquino president to impose a law that prohibits the burial of Marcos at the “Heroes Cemetery” in Taguig. The late Corazon “Cory” Aquino who ruled for 6 years and former President Benigno Aquino III who ruled for also 6 years for a total of 12 years did not amend any law that will block Marcos’ hero’s burial.
The president also mentioned the Republic Act 289, which allows past presidents, together with national heroes and patriots, to be buried at the Libingan. “Abogado ako. I am trained to follow simply the law. It was a simple matter of amending the law, and they had about, `yung nanay pati `yung anak, six, [plus] six, [with a total of] 12 golden years to do it,” said by Duterte quoted by Manilatimes.
