Negros Drug User Surrenders in Silay City

Negros drug user surrendered to authorities in Silay City.

Negros drug user surrendered to authorities and signed an oath of undertaking to stop his illegal activities.

Apparently driven by fear of the police’s aggressive campaign against illegal drugs, one of the top drug users surrendered in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

According to a report, Alain Gamboa of Barangay 1 surrendered to Silay Mayor Mark Golez. The 32-year-old man surrendered in the presence of Ronnie Delicana, director of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Negros Island Region, and Superintendent Willy Diel, city police chief, at the city hall on Thursday, July 7.

Gamboa was already monitored and is in the Top target list of the carrier of illegal drugs in Silay City. The authorities found out that majority of the supply of drugs came from him which he gets from Luzon and Cebu.

Gamboa surrendered for the fear of execution as he was on the target list of the police’s aggressive campaign against illegal drugs wherein some drug suspects were already killed.

He is the first drug suspect who surrendered to the authorities since the Oplan Tokhang (a combination of toktok and hangyo) that started last July 1.

Oplan Tokhang (a combination of toktok and hangyowhich mean knock and then plead encourage the users to voluntarily surrender and stop their illegal activities. Furthermore, the Oplan Tokhang will have the house-to-house to visitation by policemen in coordination with barangay officials.

With this step to stop the rampant spread of addiction in the country, hopefully this will lead to the surrender of suspected drug users and peddlers and eventually live new drug-free lives.

According to a report, Gamboa said that that the government campaign is an opportunity provided for him to change.
