VP Leni Robredo Criticized By Netizens For Posing At Holocaust Memorial

Netizens criticized VP Leni Robredo together with opposition members after posing for a photo at the Holocaust Memorial.

Vice President Leni Robredo received criticism along with other personalities from the opposition such as Senator Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan as photos of them posing at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Germany circulated on social media.

The said memorial was built to honor those who lost their live due to genocide which happened during the World War II.

Based on the article published in Pinoy Trending, the said photo of VP Leni with the opposition members were criticized by several Germans and that includes a Jewish artist named Shahak Shapira.

The artist edited some selfie photos of the “ignorant” tourists in order to express his criticisms against what they did through his “Yolocaust” project.

Shapira wrote on his website, “About 10,000 people visit the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe every day. Many of them take goofy pictures, jump, skate or bike on the 2,711 concrete slabs of the 19,000 m² large structure.”

He added that the exact meaning and role of the Holocaust Memorial are controversial. According also to the artist, the grey stelae symbolize the gravestone of 6 million Jews who were murdered in buried in mass graves.

Furthermore, Marc Lipshitz, and activist against anti-Semitism in Quora said that it is okay if people pose for a selfie but smiling and laughing in the pictures are seen as a disgusting new trend.

Attorney Trixie Angeles also expressed nonconformity to what the Vice President did through an open letter.

“I am not sure if anyone has informed you of the etiquette involved in taking pictures at this site. BUT this is a place of great sorrow, great tragedy.” Angeles said.

“You do not take pictures here and smile like nag fashion shoot ka. The place deserves solemnity and reverence and yes, mourning.”

“Damn. Your party and sympathizers consider proDuterte people bastos and walang modo. But you…you are plainly disrespectful and, ignorant.”
