Business Leaders Express Support For Charter Change

Several business leaders expressed support for charter change in the country.

BUSINESS – Several business leaders aired out their support for the efforts to amend the Philippine Constitution to make the country more attractive.

Since Pres. Rodrigo ‘Rody’ Duterte assumed the post through a landslide victory, talks about charter change has hit the surface. Like in a coin, there are also two sides when it comes to Cha-cha.

Some of the people do not see it beneficial to do as of the moment as the country is faced to a lot of pressing problems nowadays while a part of the populace can see it as one of the solutions and a step for change to happen.

In a recent news update in The Philippine Star, it is stated that several businessmen expressed their support to amend the Philippine Constitution so that PH would be more appealing to investors from foreign countries.

Based on the update, ports tycoon Enrique Razon, Jose Concepcion III, the president and CEO of RFM, and Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, the chairman of Ayala corp. were the business leaders who have aired out their support for Cha-cha in an event, Pilipinas Conference, organized by Stratbase ADR institute yesterday.

It came after Pres. Duterte has officially signed an executive order creating a panel with 25 members to study proposals to amend the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

Zobel aired out his thought that an ‘open environment for investment’ is good for the Philippines and that the Constitution has entailed some limitations which makes ‘foreign investments uncomfortable’.

Razon also supported the opening up for investments as he said, “What is good for the country is to open up for investments… It’s good for the country. It’s good for everybody.”

Enrique Razon affirmed on the idea that there is a need for change and emphasized that it ‘has to be managed really well’.
