Teddy Locsin On Duterte’s Inaugural Speech: “It wasn’t. It wasn’t inspiring. Instead, I was puzzled,”

Yesterday, Rodrigo Duterte, the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines has delivered his meaningful speech, which was considered by most Filipinos as among the most beautiful Inaugural speech in the History of the incoming president of the country.
In his speech, he explicitly emphasized how can drugs destroy a family relationship by saying, ““I have seen how illegal drugs ruin family relationships”.

He also reiterated that CHANGE must be done. He said, “This must start with us in us.” He continued that, “The ride will be rough but come and join me just the same.”

Some of the lines in his speech are very meaningful, as he emphasized Abraham Lincoln expression, “You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong; You cannot help the poor by discouraging the rich; You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer; You cannot further the brotherhood by inciting class hatred among men.”

Meanwhile in a report by ABS-CBN’s ANC “No Filter”, Teddy Locsin Jr. and Prof. Popoy De Vera weighed in on the inauguration ceremonies of the elected President and Vice-President.

Joining the program is historian and former Communications Undersecretary Manolo Quezon.

Locsin commented on Duterte’s speech that he is expecting that the inaugural speech of the President is inspiring, but he was disappointed after hearing it.

“The plug was it was going to be inspiring. It wasn’t. It wasn’t inspiring. Instead, I was puzzled,” Locsin said.

“So, what then was he saying? Then I realized, it’s the way he was expressing himself. He was expressing himself in the old-fashioned way,” he explained.

  1. I know you are a good speech writer..but most of the speeches you wrote during the Cory’s days came from your head(mind) not from the HEART,,,,this inaugural speech was written and delivered by Pres. Duterte came from his HEART,,heart of the poor people he felt during his public service life..so pls. Try to write a speech from your heart,,you will not be puzzled ,,

  2. Teddy, look for the clear meaning of the inaugural message of the president, not the person giving the message itself! Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte may not pass your “standards” but you have to remember that Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte exceeds expectations of the Filipino people and the world itself!

  3. Anyone can also deliver the prepared speech just like any other Filipino can read what the teleprompter is running. The best test of the speech is to see its message being accomplished. I am willing to wait for the 3 to 6 months and witness the promised change(s). So far the signals aren’t promising with the traces and beneficiaries of corruption seated in the front rows while the elected and the true hope of good governance is not even invited.

  5. There are speeches that do not inspire, but more action can inspire. There are many who are not gifted with the beauty in expressing their thoughts. When I listen to a boring speech or what one asesses, I will dig deep into what his simple language mean. There are many people who can beautifully create their speeches but lacking in action. We need to inspire ourselves rather than wait for people to inspire us, motivation comes from within.

  6. Speeches is just a mere words that can be written and prepared by anyone.review so many times. Most likely refer to friends for comments.what is important is the person and his capacity to fix and govern the country effectively. Otherwise speeches could have been a qualifications to run for president.and academe people will always win.

  7. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was voted by 16 million Filipinos and whatever side comments about his style of reaching out to them just do not hold water.

  9. Mr. President would u allow macoy to be buried at libingan ng mga bayani? Yes because its the reason why pinoys are divided. A kind heart for the rich and famous. I will not assure vp leni of cabinet post as bongbong is my dear friend. A kind heart again for an offspring of the rich and the best president. Never mind the elected vp of the poor. More important is the rich. Moromoro. Partisan pa more!

  10. Give him the benefit of the doubt. Let’s wait and see. 3 to 6 months are not that long for us to wait. But as for now let us support him. And it would be better if we stop all the bickerings in social media. It isn’t doing us any good because it only promotes divisiveness. As he had said in his inaugural speech change must come from us. And putting a stop to these bad criticizms in social media is the first change that must come from us.

  11. It was such a very inspiring and sincere inaugural speech. He may not be as articulate and well-versed in English as you are Mr. Locsin but he speaks from the heart and a man of action. From what I know, you are a known supporter of Pres. Duterte when he was just campaigning. How come? Why did you have a change of heart, Mr. Locsin???
