SMOKING

Several medical reports and researches already cited the health danger of smoking. One of the bad results of smoking is having clogged pores, according to the article from The Healthy. The International Journal of Research in Dermatology released a study citing that men who smoked were twice as likely to have acne than those who didn’t. Smoking weakens the elasticity of the skin, along with a slew of other negative effects.

SLEEPING ON DIRTY BEDDINGS

Pillowcases and bedsheets can easily harbor a buildup of oil, dirt, and dead skin and this can be transferred back to your skin when you sleep on them. Because of this, your pores may become clogged and blemishes will appear. “Washing bed sheets can make a difference, especially if you are a sweater,” Samer Jaber, MD, a dermatologist in New York, NY said.

FREQUENTLY TOUCHING THE FACE

Every day our hands are exposed to germs for toughing various things. “Touching your face regularly can trigger acne through the spread of the P. acnes bacteria,” Dr. Jaber explained. When you touch your face, especially when you do it frequently, you are transferring the germs from your hands. In order to fight this bad habit to cause damage to your skin, you should always sanitize your hands.

SUNBATHING

Sunbathing is fun for many people, especially during the summer season. However, “sun tanning and resultant sun damage can worsen pores, as the sun can damage the surrounding skin tissues, making the pores appear larger,” according to Dr. Jaber. Sunscreens can be the best buddy but those products with the “potentially best coverage against dangerous UV rays are also often the ones that are least comedogenic (pore-blocking”, the article stated.

TALKING ON THE PHONE FOR A LONG TIME

Phones can collect makeup, dirt, oil, and bacteria from any surface they have contact with. Regularly talking on the phone and have it glued to your face for a long time can result in localized breakouts on your cheeks, along the sides of your face. 96 percent of the 105 cell phones tested were contaminated with some type of bacteria, according to a study of medical students in Saudi Arabia.

WEARING MAKEUP DURING WORKOUT

Dr. Jaber explained that when you are working out, the natural way of your body to cool down is to sweat. Wearing makeup while having this activity can trap sweat and bacteria. “This can result in skin congestion, which can cause blackheads, skin irritation, and increased breakouts,” he said.

PICKING THE BLEMISHES

Compulsively picking at your blemishes in an effort to remove them can cause even more blemishes. This habit can contribute to skin inflammation and irritation. In the long run, this will greatly affect the pore size. When you squeeze and stretch of skin, you are transferring impurities from your hands to your skin which can result in clogged pores.
