Difficulty seeing at night or while driving

Michelle Andreoli, MD, clinical spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), said that driving at night is the best benchmark of when your vision is starting to drop off. In this situation, it is natural that people have difficulty seeing in the dark or in the far distance, so, if your eyes are already struggling, it will be more noticeable. This could be a sign that cataract is beginning to form.

Red or pink eyes

Dr. Andreoli, who is an ophthalmologist at the Wheaton Eye Clinic in Wheaton, Illinois, warns that red or pink in the eye can be very complicated and very dangerous. This could lead to conjunctivitis (an inflammation of the conjunctiva, a thin layer of transparent tissue that covers the whites of your eyes and inner eyelids), allergies, or even an uncommon type of glaucoma. According to the article from The Healthy, red or pink eye lasting for 24 to 48 hours should be a signal that you should visit an ophthalmologist.

Sensitivity to light

When you experience sensitivity to light, which is usually accompanied by inflammation in the eye, this could mean that your cornea, the thin transparent layer that covers your iris and pupil, or it might go deeper into the eye. In some instances, this condition could lead to scarring, which in some cases can be permanent. However, sensitivity to light, in some cases, is not related to eye problems but to allergies, viral illness, migraine headaches.

Blurry vision or problem focusing on an object

“If a patient is noticing a change in the quality of their vision, it is a good time to make an appointment to see their ophthalmologist,” Dr. Andreoli said. There might have been several reasons why there is a sudden change in your vision. That is why it is necessary to pay attention to your eye health.

Eye pain

Experiencing the pain in your eyes is never normal, according to Dr. Andreoli. This could be a sign of acute angle-closure glaucoma. It is considered a medical emergency that also has these symptoms – blurry vision, headache, nausea, and vomiting.

Frequent headaches

Headaches can be a sign of various ailments but certainly, eye health can contribute to this. “If someone has been getting some headaches, an ophthalmologist is absolutely a great first step in trying to figure out what’s causing it,” Dr. Andreoli explained.

Seeing spot or flashes

Having this condition could mean that your retina could be torn, bleeding or detached. This condition can be corrected immediately as soon as you visit an eye doctor.

Tons of tears

“A normal, healthy tear film requires lots of different biochemical properties to be in perfect harmony. And if they’re not, you can either get dryness or watering of the eyes,” Dr. Andreoli.

Double vision

According to Dr. Andreoli, there are many causes why people experience double vision but sometimes it could be a sign of stroke or problem with blood vessels of the brain. In some cases, the patients end up in emergency room.

Feeling discomfort when staring at a computer

15 times per minute, this is the normal frequency of blinks that humans do. Often, when you stare at a computer screen, this is lesser, which hinder the lubrication.
