In a report by Inquirer, SMC president Ramon S. Ang said in an interview that the project will depend on the local government unit if they will allow a private sector partner to start the estimated $100 million (about P4.6 billion) project.

“We proposed the idea for them to bid out. For us, it’s okay if there are other bidders,” Ang said as quoted in the article.

Presently, the only way to go to Boracay is by using boats from the port of Caticlan wherein cargo and tourists are carried. Because of the beauty of the place, tourists have been coming from different parts of the world. Another problem that rose up with that is the garbage disposal that is accompanied by the people coming to the island.

According to Ang, the project aims to provide convenience to the tourist and to also to lessen the sewerage problems currently faced by the community.

“They can all live in Caticlan and enjoy the view in Boracay, which is now so congested and has a lot of sewerage problems,” And said.

And added that tourists can find cheaper accommodations in Caticlan and for those backpackers, they can even find accommodations for just P1,000 per night.

The nearest airport to Boracay, Godofredo P. Ramos Airport, is being upgraded by SMC under a privatization deal in Caticlan. It is also said in the report that the upgrade of the airport is done to accommodate the tourists who will be going to Caticlan.

According to the And, Caticlan Airport could now accommodate big jets.

Would it be really efficient having a bridge going Boracay?
