Benham Rise Is Not Yet Commercially Viable, Fuentebella Says

Benham Rise is not yet commercially viable, DOE Undersecretary, Felix William Fuentebella told the House Committee on Energy.

Department Of Energy (DOE), Undersecretary said that the Benham rise is not yet commercially available for its location was too deep so he can’t yet promise now with the use of current technologies.

Fuentebella told the Committee on Energy, the new source of the natural gas plant was not still available due to its complicated location. Benham rise will be the substitute of Malampaya Natural gas plant, the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) as the query was still going on.

“The PNOC gave us a briefing on that. It turned out that the Benham rise Area is not commercially viable. Masyado pong malalim; di po siya masyadong promising for now under using the current technologies. [It’s too deep; it is not too promising now with the use of current technologies],” said by Fuentebella quoted by ABS-CBN.
