Filipino celebrities expressed their support to Rappler on its fight for press freedom following SEC’s decision to revoke its license
Social news website Rappler continues to fight for press freedom after the Securities and Exchange Commission revoked its licence.
It was mentioned previously that the online news agency already received support from the opposition Senators.
Senators Francis Pangilinan, Risa Hontiveros, Leila De Lima, Bam Aquino and Franklin Drilon expressed that they are on the side of Rappler, based on the previous report.
In the midst of the crisis, criticisms and threat of operation termination, the news site found broader league of supporters in the persons of several Filipino celebrities, based on the report recently posted on Rappler.
On Twitter, several stars expressed their support to the social news website and to the fight for the press freedom.
APO Hiking Society member Jim Paredes says no to dictatorship and tyranny while veteran OPM singer Leah Navarro directly attacked the Duterte administration.
Other Pinoy celebrities who expressed their thoughts regarding the revocation of Rappler’s registration are TV host Bianca Gonzalez, Actress Gissele Tongi, Director Erik Matti and Batibot’s Bodjie Pascua.
The four of them strongly fight for the press freedom and taking the side of the news website against SEC.
Well-known theater actor Audie Gemora, did not mention on his post that he is directly supporting Rappler but he encouraged his Facebook Page followers to fight for the freedom of speech.
Former model and fashion editor Sarah Meier, through her Instagram post, also expressed indirectly her support for the press freedom as well as discussing the recent revocation incident, based on the report.
On the other hand, there are celebrities who vocally expressed their support to Rappler through their FB profile pictures such as Bayang Barrios, Cooky Chua, Chino Singson of Itchyworms, filmmaker Quark Henares, and actress Agot Isidro.
