BIR Teams Up With PayMaya for Paying Taxes Online

Filipinos may soon allow paying their taxes online using their mobile phones. As the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) made a deal with PayMaya, a digital financial service provider.

Holders of PayMaya account can remit their tax payments to BIR online through the Pay Bills feature of the PayMaya app. Paymaya is also working with BIR to extend its digital tax payments through online portals as well as through other channels such as its revenue district offices nationwide.

Having more digital payment options is part of the government’s efforts to drive ease of doing business in the country,” Caesar Dulay, commissioner of the BIR, said.

The BIR – Paymaya partnership supports the country’s initiative to digitize more on its services to reach their goals in terms of revenue collection as well as to deliver better service to the public.

Under the National Retail Payment System, Filipinos may be enabled to paying their taxes online through digital payment instrument as well as to contribute to the goal of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to increase its digital transaction to 20% by 2020.

This partnership is also supported by the project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the E-PESO project.
