Sen. Manny Pacquiao’s Crash Course On Governance

Senator-elect Manny Pacquiao will be taking up a 9-day crash course on governance for him to be prepared for the bigger responsibilities and duties being a senator starting in July.

According to ABS-CBN, Pacquiao has been attending the said nine-day course on Wednesday in General Santos City focusing on the “social graces, protocols and parliamentary procedures in the Senate.

The said executive coaching program was conducted by the Philippine Public Safety College, Asian Institute of Management, Development Academy of the Philippines, and Ateneo School of Government, also includes discussions related to key national issues such as the Conditional Cash Transfer Program, education, health, economy, foreign policy, disaster response, Freedom of Information bill and the West Philippine Sea.

In an interview, Pacquiao said that he has still many things to be learned about legislation and he needs to focus on the vision he wants to instill during his six-year term.

He also expressed his support to President Rodrigo Duterte’s advocacy in governance.

According to the report, the former boxing superstar could possibly be the head of the Senate Committee on Public Works in the coming 17th congress. Pacquiao also expressed that he wanted to be the chairman of the Senate committee on Games and Amusement.

Pacquiao retired from boxing after beating Timothy Bradley last April in order to focus on his family and political career.

Pacquiao has been a two-time Congressman of Saranggani Province before running and winning the senatorial race on the May 9 Elections.
