Lawyer: Leni Not Accountable For Marcos' Allegations

In an opinion piece published at lenirobredo.com, Atty. Macalintal said that the formal complaint did not state Robredo as the respondent so she has no responsibility to face the allegations.

“Culled from media reports, the petition filed by Senator Ferdinand Marcos questioning the proclamation of elected Vice President Leni Robredo consisting of “three parts” is NOT an election protest. It does  not even name Ms. Robredo as the one responsible for the alleged irregularities, hence, she could not be made to answer for such scattershot allegations in Marcos’ petition,” the statement reads.

A day before Leni Robredo was proclaimed, Senator Marcos filed a three-part election protest with the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET).

Senator Marcos asked PET to cancel Robredo’s proclamation and instead declare him as the winning Vice Presidential candidate.

According to the official and final vote counts, Robredo won the vice presidential race with more 200,000 votes ahead of her closest rival Marcos.

According to Macalintal, PET has no jurisdiction over the section. He also said that it would take an estimated 3 years to decide for the protest.

The election lawyer added that Marcos would need sufficient funds amounting to P127 million to finance the petition. He said that the fund would be used to gather the ballot boxes, government permits and election equipment to prove his allegations.
