Aiza Seguerra to North Cotabato Governor Mendoza: “You can’t eat pride.”

Former child actress and singer Aiza Seguerra lambasted North Cotabato Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza after she refused to accept rice donations from politicians and other public figures for the Kidapawan farmers who were recently involved in an unfortunate incident.

Aiza Seguerra took the photo and video sharing site Instagram to express her frustrations over the incident which involved the governor, reminding her that politics and service should be different.

“Hindi po nakakain ang pride. Now that the Filipino people are stepping up to help, sasabihin nyo insulto sa inyo?” she asked.

“Propaganda naman dahil ibang kandidato ang nagbigay baga pledge ng bigas. Kung yung kandidato mo kaya ang nagbigay ng bigas, will you say the same thing?” she further asked.

The 32-year-old artist also said that if the government only gave what the farmers asked, the incident will not happen. “Kung ibinigay mo na lang yung hinihiling nila, hindi mangayayari ito,” she wrote.

Presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s recently offered rice donations to the farmers, but Gov. Mendoza refused to accept it, saying that it is an insult to her governance.

Two of the most popular stars Robin Padilla and Anne Curtis also send food aid to the farmers. But according to Inquirer, the police blocked 300 farmers from Makilan town from getting rice sacks donation from the celebrities and other private organizations and personalities.

On Friday, 3 farmers lost their lives and an estimated 100 peasants were left wounded after the violent dispersal of Philippine National Police (PNP). The farmers protested to seek for government relief following the El Niño drought that affected their farms since November last year.
