Japan Shocked By A 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Earlier This Morning

Japan struggled when hit by a strong earthquake during the night. After the disaster made in Myanmar, next was theirs.

Houses collapsed, buildings fallen on the road when a strong earthquake hit Japan, cutting power supplies.

Nine people were reportedly missing and found d3ad, 250 were injured in Southern Japan.

Officials said there might be more people trapped under collapsed buildings.

Thousands of residents fled their homes and many people spent the whole in an open town in Mashiki, near Kumamoto City.

Troops and police officials have been sent to the area for rescue operations.

However, the operations were disrupted due to aftershocks.

There was no warning of tsunami after being hit by the earthquake.

The 6.4 magnitude struck at abut 12:26 GMT, east of Kumamoto.

No nuclear reactors have been affected, reports said.

The quake struck at a depth of 10km, or six miles, followed by aftershocks forty minutes later after midnight, local time.

Local police official stated in the Associated Press news, “the shaking was so violent I couldn’t stand still.”

Yasuhiro Soshino of Japanese Red Cross Kumamoto Hospital, told BBC World News on Friday morning that they received 254 injured people.

Yoshihide Suga, Chief Cabinet Secretary said that at least 19 houses had collapsed and officials were still investigating the extent of the damage.

16,000 homes didn’t have electricity and 38,000 doesn’t have gas, reports say.

Rupert Wingfield-Hayes, BBC Japan Correspondent said that the quake took place at a time when most people were at home.

Train services were also suspended to ensure safety.

At least two d3aths occurred in Mashiki, where the shaking was most felt. The town lies 15 kilometers or nine miles east of Kumamoto.
