Tom Jones Cancels Manila Concert Few Hours Before Start

Legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones cancels his concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum less than two hours before the start, Saturday, April 2. The singer’s reason is “due to a serious illness in his immediate family.”

In a report written on Philippine Inquirer, the promoter of the concert, Ovation Productions, said that Jones looks devastated.

Tom Jones was known for his songs entitled “It’s Not Unusual”, “What’s New Pussycat”, Green Green Grass of Home”, “Delilah”, “Kiss”, “Till”, “If I Only Knew”, and a lot more. These songs were expected to be sung by the Welsh crooner during his ought-to-be concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

All of the fans and the promoter as well were all surprised with the turn of events. Here is the statement of Tom Jones’ management

“Due to serious illness in his immediate family, Tom Jones has regretfully had to cancel his performance in Manila this evening. He extends his deepest apologies to both organizers and the fans, who he is most sad to disappoint. There are no further details at this time.”

Initial reports say that the reason behind the cancellation of the concert is because the 75-years-old singer’s wife, Linda was ill. But, this has been denied by his management.

This is not the first time Tom Jones cancelled a concert in Manila. The first time he did it was back in 2010 where the singer is said to be suffering from acute laryngitis.
