Quezon City Government Employees Caught Distributing Envelopes With Cash For Liberal Party Event

Government employees from the city government of Quezon City were caught-on-act giving brown envelopes containing cash in a Liberal Party gathering of barangay workers.

In an expose by GMA News, they have discovered that cash was being given to the attendees in the sports complex owned by the government of Quezon City.

Then on interviews with people, the team have known that the even was an event known to Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and Rep. Rey Calalay. It was an event for the “Lupon ng Tagapamayapa” (Peace Council) members from different barangays.

According to the source, the people were invited to the so-called “political event” and after that, invited to line up for the snacks and to receive the brown envelope.

Now, as the team confronted some of the government employees about what’s happening, they denied it. They then stopped the distribution and hid the brown envelopes.

But, one attendee revealed what is the content of the small brown envelope. It appeared to have a P1,000 bill on it.

Now, as the City Administrator named Aldin Cuña was asked about the event, he said that it is really an organized Liberal Party sortie.

“It’s actually a political gathering,” he said.

“Obviously, ‘pag ganyan, campaign period, you can expect candidates to be there, to be explaining their platforms of government. And of course, courting votes. These are candidates from Liberal Party and invited community leaders of Quezon City.”

Then, when asked about the brown envelopes, he explained that these envelopes are just for “transportation” purposes.

Cuña was asked again why some of the attendees used government-marked vehicles, he said that it was for the officials.
