Retire Valdez Jersey. After Alyssa Valdez’ illustrious collegiate career and the Ateneo Lady Eagle’s historic defeat at the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Championships, Ateneo de Manila University volleyball fans are asking for the school to retire the jersey number of the three-time MVP.
After being beaten by the De La Salle University Lady Spikers, fans are up in Twitter with the requests to #RetireJerseyNo2 in the next season of the women’s volleyball.
However for retirement of Valdez Jersey, the Ateneo team captain does not seem too concerned with getting her jersey number retired.
Valdez doesn’t think that Ateneo would retire her jersey number saying that talents are just gonna go and come.
“They’re thankful for the service that you gave them, for sure, they’re grateful.” she said.
If Ateneo will confirm the jersey retirement of Valdez, she will be the first athlete to be receive the honor.
“So baka may mas deserving pa na i-retire ang jersey nila,” she added.
The Phenom will also be honored on Saturday during the school’s Blue Eagle Bonfire.
Meanwhile, Valdez did not forget in thanking her school for supporting her and promised support to outstanding players who will come in way for Ateneo.
But if given the rare opportunity for jersey retirement, Valdez said she will be grateful however added that jersey retirement is not something that she needs.
“Basta, you’ve done your part as a student-athlete in Ateneo, and ‘yung pride and glory na binigay sa’yo ng school, enough na din naman ‘yun.” she said.
Working hard for her team, Valdez made a long walk for the UAAP before becoming the queen who ignited the hearts of the Filipinos to love women’s volleyball.
For fans, Valdez is someone who should be remembered as the first Atenean to have her playing jersey retired.
