Presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte recently admitted that he has bank accounts, which Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV accused him containing up to P211 million, during his time being Davao City’s congressman.

In an interview by Jessica Soho of GMA News, Duterte clarified the claim.

“You listen very carefully. No such thing. Those were my accounts when I was a congressman,” Duterte said a quoted in the report.

“Kung bibiyahe kasi kami, binibigyan kami ng account. Hinihingi yung account number kasi papasukan nila ng dollar para pambaon namin. But that has been dormant,” he said. [If we would travel, we were given an account. They would ask for the account number because dollar money will be deposited there as allowance.]

Duterte became the representative Davao City in the House of Representative from 1998 to 2001.

In earlier reports, Trillanes already claimed that the incoming president had accounts in the Bank of the Philippines (BPI) in the Julia Vargas Ave. branch that contains over P211 million. This was, according to Trillanes, was not declared in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) in 2014.

Even when Trillanes and Duterte’s Lawyer, Salvador Panelo already had a face-off regarding the issue, it didn’t push through.

Panelo insisted that the alleged amount didn’t contain the BPI accounts as BPI certifies.

Even though Trillanes already conceded on the Vice-Presidential race, he said that he’ll still be pursuing the issue about the alleged bank accounts of Duterte.

What do you think of incoming president Duterte’s admission of the said amount of money?

Will it affect his coming presidency in a few weeks?
