Rice prices have recently surged to over 50 pesos per kilo, far exceeding President Bongbong Marcos’ promised rate of 20 pesos per kilo during his campaign prior to the election. It cannot be denied that even transportation fares are gradually increasing due to the continuous rise in gasoline prices. There might be impending fare hikes, and there are discussions of adding an extra peso per kilometer in transportation costs, placing an additional burden on the citizens. It is expected that in the coming days, there will be additional fare increases, further straining the public.

Soaring Rice Prices

The average citizen’s income ranges from 300 to 600 pesos, depending on the type of work. Thus, considering the high cost of living, the earnings are insufficient to support a family. Especially with the upcoming school year, some of us have students to educate.

President Marcos designated himself as an Agriculture Secretary, often becoming the focus of questions regarding the high cost of living. This is exacerbated by the fact that most of these goods are products originating from our country. On the other hand, it has been explained that there is a significant shortage of rice and other products in the country, necessitating the need for imports from other countries.

Vice President Sarah Duterte, serving as the Secretary of the Department of Education (DEPED), has recently started the “Brigada Eskwela” initiative. In the past days, she and President Marcos were seen working together, painting chairs in a school. This caught the attention of a netizen who jokingly commented that “dahil daw malaki ang “Intelligence Funds” para sa edukasyon. yan daw resibo. hahah”
