In the report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) this Monday, the number of affected individuals due to the shear line and Tropical Storm Kabayan (internationally known as Jelawat) has reached over 6,000. According to their 8 a.m. report, a total of 6,723 individuals or 2,190 families residing in 43 barangays in the Caraga region have been affected.
Out of this mentioned figure, 6,370 people are currently in 48 evacuation centers, while 353 are outside these temporary shelters. Although the NDRRMC did not specify the exact locations, they also reported three areas experiencing power interruptions.
Furthermore, two houses were damaged due to the adverse weather conditions.
Tropical Storm Kabayan made its first landfall over Barangay Concepcion, Manay, Davao Oriental, around 9:30 a.m., according to the statement from the state weather bureau.
Amidst these events, profound needs arise in the affected communities. Evacuation centers serve as temporary homes for the displaced, but the challenges in their day-to-day lives cannot be denied.
The presence of 6,723 affected individuals highlights the importance of immediate response and support from the government and various sectors of society. In times of need, careful observation and readiness to assist are crucial.
Led by local governments, effective distribution of relief goods, medical assistance, and other emergency services is essential for the affected families. Swift action from authorities paves the way to mitigate the impact of the calamity and maintain the safety and well-being of the citizens.
As part of the broader community, unity and cooperation are vital. There are various ways each of us can contribute, from providing donations to volunteering in relief operations.
Giving priority to children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, who are often more vulnerable in such situations, is also crucial. Having a well-organized system of assistance can help expedite the recovery of those affected.
Preparedness and collaboration are crucial in facing such crises. Monitoring weather bureau reports and careful planning by agencies like the NDRRMC serve as the foundation to ensure the safety of the people.
Through collective effort, we can overcome this challenge and pave the way for the recovery of communities affected by Tropical Storm Kabayan and the shear line.
