On December 29, 2023, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) released its latest weather forecast. Throughout Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, the country is influenced by two weather systems: the Northeast Monsoon in Northern Luzon and Central Luzon, and the Easterlies in the remaining parts of the country.
Weather Situation:
In the provinces of Batanes and Babuyan Islands, cloudy skies with rain are expected. This is caused by the influence of the Northeast Monsoon. It may bring rain similar to the current weather conditions and may result in possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall.
In the regions of Visayas, Mindanao, MIMAROPA, and Bicol Region, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are anticipated. This is caused by Easterlies or localized thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides are possible, especially during severe thunderstorms.
In Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected. This will have no significant impact on the area.
Wind and Coastal Conditions:
In Luzon and the eastern section of Visayas, moderate to strong winds from the East to Northeast are expected. Coastal waters in these areas will be moderate to rough, with heights ranging from 1.2 to 3.0 meters.
In the rest of the country, light to moderate winds from the East to Northeast are expected. Coastal waters in these areas will be slight to moderate, with heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters.
Details Under the Forecast:
In specific areas such as the Bicol region, Northern Samar, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected. The wind coming from the East to the Northeast will be moderate to strong, and coastal waters in these areas will be moderate to rough.
In general, it is important to exercise caution and closely monitor Pagasa’s warnings to ensure the safety of the public against the potential effects of unusual weather conditions.
