Miss Universe beauties will visit Oslob.
Miss Universe beauties are going to Oslob town in Cebu despite the protest by the environmentalists in social media.
Some of the netizens took to Facebook and appealing against the Miss Universe contestants’ visit to Oslob.
They are protesting about the whale shark issue. Facebook User Gabriel Yap from Pasig posted on Facebook saying, “Miss Universe, please don’t be a bitch to the environment” in all caps.
Yap explained that Oslob’s exposure to the world would draw more foreign and local tourists that would cause further harm the sharks.
“We don’t need to show off whale shark watching. The Philippines has literally THOUSANDS of more beautiful sights and places for the contestants to experience. Let’s not give the world the image that we’re a nation that doesn’t give a shit about its wildlife,” he said.
According to a report of Phil Star, some of the environmentalists have pleaded for Miss Universe candidates not to swim with whale sharks in Oslob town in southern Cebu.
Despite the protest of the environmentalist on the social media, Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale confirmed that the Miss Universe contestants will still push through to visit in the town in Cebu.
Magpales said that she and other Capitol officials will accompany the Miss Universe candidates to Oslob.
The vice governor also shared that she had a discussion with the governor about the issue, and concluded that they will abide by the president’s order.
Magpales pointed out that there is no ordinance or national law prohibiting the feeding of the whale sharks.
The itinerary was planned by the organizing team of Miss Universe. We have been preparing for their arrival and we welcome them,” she said.
Reports said that the candidates are set to visit Oslob, the shrine in Mactan and Magellan’s Cross, and will immediately be transported back to Manila.
The Miss Universe candidates will arrive in the town around 7:30 a.m. tomorrow.
