A shocking incident unfolded in Quezon City as Shervey Torno, a 25-year-old model from Navotas City, was arrested for an alleged rape attempt against “It’s Showtime” host Cianne Dominguez. The distressing event transpired at around 7:30 p.m. in a condominium building located in Barangay South Triangle, where the 23-year-old Dominguez resides.
According to reports, the encounter began when Dominguez, known in real life as Tricia Anne Florendo, crossed paths with Torno at the elevator of the condominium. Subsequently, upon entering her unit, Dominguez heard persistent knocking on her door. When she cautiously opened the door, she was met by Torno, who swiftly attempted to kiss her after grabbing her waist. However, Dominguez bravely fought back against the assailant’s advances.
In a social media post by Dominguez’s father, John Florendo, it was revealed that she managed to capture footage of Torno as she pursued him along the hallway. The situation escalated when Torno slipped while attempting to flee down the stairs, leading to his apprehension by a vigilant security officer of the condominium. He was promptly handed over to the authorities.
As the investigation unfolds, Torno finds himself detained at the Kamuning police station, facing a charge of sexual assault. Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, the Quezon City Police District director, has indicated that further criminal charges may be brought against Torno in light of his reprehensible actions.
This harrowing incident serves as a stark reminder of the prevalence of gender-based violence in society. It underscores the importance of creating safe environments where individuals, regardless of gender, can live and thrive without fear of harassment or assault.
Furthermore, it highlights the courage displayed by individuals like Cianne Dominguez, who bravely stood up against her assailant and took swift action to document the incident, aiding in the apprehension of the suspect. Their resilience serves as an inspiration and a testament to the strength of survivors.
