Ion Perez Withdraws from Concepcion Councilor Race

Television personality Ion Perez has formally announced his withdrawal from the upcoming councilor race in Concepcion, Tarlac, stating that he wants to dedicate more time to preparing himself for future public service. Perez announced a post on his official Facebook page on the evening of November 5, expressing gratitude to his supporters and sharing his motivation for stepping down.

Perez’s message was heartfelt and direct, addressing his fellow residents in Concepcion.

The announcement comes after several weeks of speculation. Rumors of Perez’s possible withdrawal had surfaced in late October, following a cryptic social media post, which he has since deleted. The post left fans wondering about his dedication to the councilor race. With his latest statement, Perez clarified his position, affirming that he wishes to be fully prepared for the responsibilities of public office.

Perez officially filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) on October 1 at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office in Concepcion, joining the Nationalist People’s Coalition, led in Tarlac by Governor Susan Yap. His initial candidacy announcement drew considerable interest, with many locals and fans excited to see the “It’s Showtime” personality step into politics.

Although his decision marks a pause in his political journey, Perez’s message conveyed a clear commitment to eventually serve his hometown in the future. His partner, actress and “It’s Showtime” co-host Vice Ganda, has not publicly commented on Perez’s decision to step down from the race.

This move aligns with a growing trend of public figures prioritizing preparation and readiness before entering politics. Perez’s supporters have largely expressed understanding and admiration, praising his choice to prioritize growth and preparedness over rushing into a campaign.

For now, Perez remains focused on his work in the entertainment industry while keeping the door open for future political involvement. His decision may well lay the foundation for a more thoughtful entry into public service when the time is right.
