Neri Naig-Miranda Transferred to Hospital for 5 Days

Actress and businesswoman Neri Naig-Miranda, who was arrested last November 23, has been confined to a hospital for medical evaluation for the past five days. According to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the transfer was requested by her lawyer and approved by a court order.

BJMP spokesperson Jail Supt. Jayrex Bustinera confirmed that Naig-Miranda, referred to as Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) Nerizza Miranda in legal records, was moved from detention to a hospital last Friday. “RTC Branch 112 ordered the BJMP to bring PDL Nerizza Miranda to a hospital for medical evaluation… The court order was issued because of the request of PDL Miranda’s lawyer,” he explained.

The evaluation is part of the legal process but was not prompted by any specific health issue identified during Naig-Miranda’s intake. “None. Standard procedure and health evaluation during the intake process in all BJMP facilities, and there were no noted health issues during her intake. The recent hospitalization was the request of her lawyer,” Bustinera clarified.

Naig-Miranda is expected to return to her prison cell after completing the five-day hospital stay.

The actress was apprehended in a mall in Pasay City last month, following the issuance of an arrest warrant tied to 14 counts of violating the Securities Regulation Code. Bail was set at ₱126,000 per count, totaling over ₱1.7 million. However, a separate estafa case she faces is non-bailable, adding to her legal challenges.

Naig-Miranda’s legal battles have attracted significant public attention, particularly given her dual career as an actress and entrepreneur. While her legal team has yet to release an official statement, her case underscores ongoing issues surrounding white-collar crimes and their impact on public figures in the Philippines.

Supporters and fans of the actress have taken to social media to express their concern over her condition and the outcome of her legal troubles. Meanwhile, authorities maintain that due process is being followed in addressing the charges against her.

As Naig-Miranda remains in custody, the unfolding case is likely to keep both her supporters and critics tuned in to further developments.
