Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has been elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame as part of the prestigious Class of 2025. The announcement, made on Thursday, solidifies Pacquiao’s legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
Pacquiao, 45, is celebrated for his lightning-fast footwork and blistering hand speed, which helped him secure world championships across an unprecedented eight weight divisions, from flyweight to super welterweight. With a professional record of 62 wins, eight losses, and two draws, the southpaw is widely regarded as one of the greatest offensive fighters in boxing history.
The “Pacman” retired from boxing in 2021, concluding a 72-fight career that spanned over two decades. Beyond his achievements inside the ring, Pacquiao has also built a remarkable career outside of it. A former senator in the Philippines, he ran for the presidency in 2022, showcasing his dedication to public service. In addition to his political pursuits, Pacquiao is known for his philanthropic efforts, lawmaking, and even his ventures as a singer.
Expressing his gratitude for the honor, Pacquiao called it a “wonderful Christmas gift.” In a statement on the Hall of Fame’s website, he said, “Throughout my career, as a professional fighter and a public servant, it has been my goal to bring honor to my country, The Philippines, and my fellow Filipinos around the world.”
Pacquiao’s influence transcends sports. In 2009, he was featured on Time magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people. He also became the first Filipino athlete to be immortalized on a postage stamp, reflecting his cultural and national significance.
As part of the Class of 2025, Pacquiao will join other legends of the sport in the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York, cementing his place in history. This milestone not only celebrates his stellar boxing career but also highlights his broader contributions as a global ambassador for the Philippines.
Pacquiao’s induction ceremony is expected to draw fans and dignitaries from around the world, paying tribute to a fighter who inspired millions both inside and outside the ring.
