Veteran actress Janice de Belen openly defended her daughter, Kaila Estrada, following remarks labeling the young actress as “anak ng cheater.” The candid response came during a media conference for Janice’s upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2024 movie, Espantaho.
Janice did not hold back in expressing her frustration over the issue, emphasizing the harm caused by such labels. “You know, I hate that people brand other people something like that. Sana wala kang pagkakamali ‘pag nagba-brand kang ganun. Sana wala kang pagkakamali,” she said, addressing those who make baseless accusations.
The actress further explained the repercussions of labeling individuals, especially in the public eye. “Kasi it’s unfair. It’s unfair. You know, when you brand people, you damage their reputation,” Janice stressed. She pointed out that such comments not only tarnish a person’s name but also add unnecessary negativity to an already challenging world.
Recognizing the toxic culture that social media and public criticism can perpetuate, Janice urged everyone to be more positive. “Nakaka-toxic. Nakakalungkot. Kaya pilitin na lang natin na happy thoughts ang i-post natin. Inspiring thoughts. Inspiring quotations. Kasi as it is, napakahirap na ng buhay, ‘di ba? Let’s try to uplift each other, not destroy each other,” she appealed.
The issue stems from past controversies involving Kaila’s father, actor John Estrada, but Janice made it clear that Kaila should not bear the brunt of such judgments. Janice’s statements highlight a broader concern about the toxicity of public discourse and the harm caused by judgmental remarks.
Kaila Estrada, known for her rising career in the entertainment industry, has often been in the spotlight due to her lineage. However, Janice’s firm stand against the negativity aims to shield her daughter from unwarranted scrutiny and remind the public of the importance of kindness.
Janice’s latest film, Espantaho, is one of the most anticipated entries in the MMFF 2024 lineup. While the event was meant to focus on the project, the veteran actress took the opportunity to voice her thoughts on the matter, making it a moment of empowerment and advocacy against online toxicity.
This incident serves as a reminder of the impact of words and the need to approach discussions, especially about public figures, with empathy and responsibility.
