Nadia Montenegro and her youngest daughter, Sophia Asistio, made a heartfelt appearance on the latest episode of Lutong Bahay, hosted by Mikee Quintos. The candid conversation unfolded as they enjoyed a meal of callos, touching on family dynamics, reconciliation, and identity.
The discussion took a poignant turn when Mikee referenced Nadia’s past interview where she confirmed that Baron Geisler is Sophia’s biological father. When asked how she revealed this to her daughter, Nadia shared, “From the very beginning, hindi namin sinabi sa kanya. Over the years, nakikita niya ‘yung mga cousins niya sa side na ‘yun, so we never cut ties naman.”
Sophia, now in her teens, confronted Nadia about her parentage when she was 16. Nadia explained, “She knew inside, pero I didn’t feel the need to force the truth if I saw that we were okay.”
Sophia confirmed that she has since reconnected with her estranged father, sharing, “I talk to my dad, but I grew up with [my mom’s late husband Boy Asistio]. Iba pa rin ‘yung soft place niya sa heart ko.” Despite the reconnection, Sophia emphasized her attachment to her stepfather’s surname.
“When people comment, ‘Bakit ganito ‘yung apelido mo?,’ I’m very proud of the name I have now. I take pride in it, and if I don’t need to change it, I won’t,” she said, visibly moving Nadia to tears.
Sophia also admitted she struggles with addressing Baron, noting, “I just say po when I talk to him. I try to respect him, but there are still boundaries. Parang second chance na lang din ‘to.”
Despite past tensions, Sophia remains open to building a relationship with Baron. “Hindi ko rin i-cu-cut off ‘yung opportunity. Baka mas mag-grow ako as a person if may similarities pala kami,” she reflected.
Nadia expressed hope for healing, acknowledging Baron’s efforts to maintain sobriety after years of battling alcohol abuse. During a previous interview with Boy Abunda, Nadia revealed the challenges of protecting Sophia from Baron’s past behavior, citing drunk messages that strained their relationship. “Unlimited chances for someone to change,” she stated.
With both parties striving for reconciliation, Nadia and Sophia believe that the right time for complete healing is on the horizon.
