The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reports that the Shear Line is currently influencing weather patterns in Southern Luzon and the eastern section of Visayas. Additionally, the Northeast Monsoon, locally known as Amihan, is affecting the rest of Luzon.
Forecast Weather Conditions
Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, and Quezon
These areas are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms, primarily caused by the Shear Line. Residents in these regions should remain vigilant as moderate to heavy rains may result in flash floods or landslides, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
Caraga and Davao Region
The influence of Easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. Similar to the aforementioned regions, there is a risk of flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rainfall.
Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal
These areas will experience cloudy skies with rains, driven by the Northeast Monsoon. The rains, which may range from moderate to heavy, could potentially cause flash floods or landslides, especially in mountainous regions and urban areas with poor drainage systems.
The Rest of Luzon
Weather conditions in the remaining areas of Luzon will generally be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains, attributable to the Northeast Monsoon. These light rains are not expected to have significant impacts.
The Rest of the Country
The rest of the Philippines will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by Easterlies. While the rains are generally localized, severe thunderstorms may lead to flash floods or landslides in vulnerable locations.
Forecast Wind and Coastal Water Conditions
Northern Luzon and Eastern Sections of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas
Winds in these areas will be strong to gale force, originating from the northeast. Coastal waters are anticipated to be rough to very rough, with wave heights ranging from 2.8 to 4.5 meters. Mariners are advised to refrain from venturing into these waters.
The Rest of Luzon and Visayas
Moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail, generating moderate to rough coastal waters with wave heights of 2.5 to 3.5 meters.
The Rest of the Country
Light to moderate winds will be accompanied by slight to moderate coastal waters, with wave heights between 0.6 and 2.5 meters.
Heavy Rainfall Outlook
- Today: Moderate to heavy rainfall (50-100 mm) is anticipated in Quezon, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, and Northern Samar.
- Tomorrow: Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, and Catanduanes remain under threat of similar rainfall intensities.
- Wednesday (January 15): Quezon is forecasted to experience moderate to heavy rains.
Higher rainfall totals are expected in elevated areas, which could exacerbate the risk of flooding and landslides, especially in regions with antecedent rainfall.
