In his speech, Singson cited health concerns as the primary reason for his decision to withdraw from the candidacy. “Matapos ang mahabang pag-iisip, ang desisyon ko po hindi na po ako tutuloy sa aking kandidatura sa senado,” he said. “Ayokong ipilit kung ang aking kalusugan ang maaring magdusa.”

The veteran politician, who has recently been undergoing treatment for pneumonia, emphasized the importance of rest for his recovery. Despite his withdrawal, he expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from his supporters.

“Ramdam ko po ang inyong pagmamahal sa akin at inyong patuloy na paniniwala sa akin. Ang overwhelming na suporta, alam ko na puso ko panalo na ako,” Singson added, acknowledging the encouragement of his backers.

Singson has had a long and storied political career, including as a deputy national security adviser. Although he will no longer pursue a Senate seat, he assured his supporters that his advocacy efforts would continue.

Notably, Singson pledged to provide modern electric vehicles to transport groups, a promise that garnered significant support from a coalition known as the “Magnificent 7.” The group had backed Singson’s senatorial bid due to his commitment to supplying modernized public utility vehicles (PUVs) to their members.

Singson also reiterated his previous campaign promise to aid underprivileged Filipinos by opening bank accounts for those in need, a measure he had touted as part of his platform during the filing of his candidacy.

While his withdrawal may be a disappointment to his supporters, Singson assured them that his advocacy work would persist. His dedication to improving the transportation sector and uplifting marginalized communities remains steadfast, even outside the electoral race.

With his announcement, Singson joins the growing list of candidates who have decided to step back from the upcoming elections, underscoring the personal sacrifices often required in public service.
