04 April 2025 — The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) has officially declared the termination of the La Niña alert in the country. Recent climate monitoring and analyses indicate that La Niña conditions have dissipated in the central and equatorial Pacific regions, with sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTAs) returning to ENSO-neutral levels.

Transition to ENSO-Neutral Conditions
Implications for Weather Patterns
During the La Niña period, the Philippines experienced above-normal rainfall in various regions, including parts of Luzon, most of Bicol, eastern Visayas, and northeastern Mindanao. With the current ENSO-neutral conditions, these La Niña-induced rainfall patterns are not expected to persist. However, the onset of the warm and dry season brings its own set of challenges. Temperatures are projected to rise, leading to increased risks of heat stress and other heat-related health concerns.
Public Advisory and Precautionary Measures
In light of these developments, DOST-PAGASA advises the public and relevant government agencies to implement precautionary measures to mitigate the effects of the warm and dry season. Recommendations include:
- Stay Hydrated: Regularly consume water to prevent dehydration.
- Limit Sun Exposure: Avoid outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours, typically from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Wear Protective Clothing: Utilize light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and wide-brimmed hats to shield against direct sunlight.
- Monitor Weather Updates: Stay informed about the latest weather forecasts and advisories issued by DOST-PAGASA.
