Filipino music legend Hajji Alejandro spent his final days surrounded by his loved ones, including his longtime partner Alynna Velasquez. The Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, just a day before what would have been his 27th anniversary with Velasquez.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday, Velasquez paid tribute to Alejandro, sharing intimate moments from the final eight days they spent together. Despite previous tensions with his family during his illness, she expressed gratitude to his children, Rachel and Ali, for reaching out and allowing her to be with him in his final moments.
“I have been waiting,” Velasquez wrote. “I think of you every hour of every day.” She described their last days together, marked by both tenderness and heartbreak, as Alejandro battled stage 4 colon cancer.
The singer, known for timeless hits like Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika, chose to spend his remaining time at home rather than in the hospital. Velasquez revealed that he opted for palliative care, wanting to be in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by those he loved.
“You refused another trip to the hospital,” she said. “You knew you were leaving us soon.” Despite his failing health and a weakened voice caused by cancer constricting his respiratory system, Velasquez said they found comfort in each other. They listened to their favorite songs with tears in their eyes, and even through the pain and confusion brought on by his condition, Alejandro tried to hold her hand.
In her tribute, Velasquez acknowledged the significance of April 22—the date they were supposed to celebrate 27 years together. “Love ko, you tried to hold on. You know it is our special day today. But your human body gave up on you,” she wrote.
“April 22, 2025—Happy 27th Anniversary, my one and only love, Hajji Alejandro,” she added. “See you in God’s time. I love you eternally.”
Alejandro, 70, leaves behind a legacy that defined a generation of Filipino music. His passing has deeply affected fans and fellow artists, who remember him not just as a voice of OPM but as a symbol of enduring passion and love.
