Maharlika Slams Imee Marcos Over Viral Campaign Video

Social media personality and outspoken Marcos critic Claire Contreras, more popularly known as “Maharlika,” launched scathing remarks against re-electionist Senator Imee Marcos following the release of the latter’s new campaign video.

The one-minute video, released on May 9, just days before the upcoming elections, featured Sen. Imee declaring that the Marcos name no longer holds control over the government. Instead, she pointed to other powerful political families, saying, “Ang gobyerno ngayon ay hindi Marcos. Ang gobyerno ngayon ay Romualdez at Araneta.” The statement appeared to target her cousin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and her sister-in-law, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

She also recounted advice from Vice President Sara Duterte to change her surname, to which she defiantly responded, “Inday, hindi ko kailangang magpalit ng apelyido. MARCOS AKO, I’m me! Ako ay ako! Ako ay si Imee Marcos.”

The video sparked online debate, with Maharlika among the first to challenge its messaging. She posted a rebuttal on TikTok titled “Imee Marcos, trending sa pag-mind control sa tao,” accusing the senator of attempting to manipulate public perception.

“Why won’t she just say that her brother is useless?” Maharlika asked pointedly. “Instead, she dumps the blame on her cousin and sister-in-law, which is clearly a distraction.”

Maharlika alleged that Sen. Imee’s statements were part of a deliberate strategy to protect President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s image, despite what she called the President’s failure in leadership. She urged the public to remain critical and not be swayed by dramatics.

“Ngayon ilalabas niya sa picture si Bangag tapos kayo papauto-uto lang? Anyway, buhay n’yo ’yan! Huwag kayong magpapauto,” she added, implying that Sen. Imee was shifting blame to protect a brother who refuses to take accountability—even for undergoing a drug test.

The online backlash has only fueled more discussions about the rift within the Marcos camp and its implications on national politics. Whether this controversy will affect the senator’s re-election bid remains to be seen. But for now, the heat is on as critics like Maharlika continue to press the administration and its allies on transparency and responsibility.
