Senator Jinggoy Estrada’s Son Assaulted in Boracay

A vacation meant for leisure turned violent for the son and nephew of Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada after they were attacked by three young men around 2:00 a.m. Saturday in Barangay Balabag, Boracay.

According to Radyo Todo, Julian Estrada and his cousin Jefferelly Vitug were walking back to D’Mall from a nearby bar when they were suddenly followed and assaulted by three suspects in front of a hotel in Brgy. Balabag. Witnesses say one of the attackers approached the group and accused them of being “cocky at the bar,” before punching one of the victims. When the other tried to intervene, he was also pushed and punched by the assailants.

The suspects were identified as James Carl Vargas y Jason, Dwyne David Mecca y Delos Santos, and Khenjie Sarabia y Dumalaog — all 18 years old and residents of Boracay.

Authorities at Station 2 responded swiftly and were able to arrest the three individuals shortly after the incident. One of the victims, later confirmed to be Julian Estrada, was brought to a nearby hospital for medical attention. He suffered a head injury and a chipped toenail, while Vitug sustained an injury to his nose.

Senator Jinggoy Estrada flew to Boracay immediately upon hearing of the incident. On Sunday, he released a statement confirming that charges had been filed against the three suspects.

“It’s unfortunate that their vacation in Boracay was marred by an act of violence. Early Saturday, they were assaulted by three young men,” Estrada said. “While charges have already been filed against the suspects, I trust that the proper authorities will investigate this case thoroughly and ensure that justice is served.”

The Boracay Police are continuing their investigation and reviewing CCTV footage in the area to support the charges. The motive behind the assault appears to stem from a misunderstanding or altercation that started earlier in a bar, though this remains under verification.

Local officials have also called for stricter implementation of peace and order protocols in nightlife areas, especially involving tourists and high-profile individuals.
