REGIONS IN THE PHILIPPINES – There is a total of 18 regions in the country as of March 2025, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The Philippines is an archipelago made of three major islands called Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The whole country is divided into different regions based on geographic location and cultural and ethnic similarities. Each region has provinces and provinces are divided into cities and municipalities.

On September 24, 1972, the regions came into existence through Presidential Decree No. 1 as part of the Integrated Reorganization Plan of President Ferdinand Marcos. Initially, there were only 11 regions. Since then, other regions were created and provinces were transferred, creating changes.
