Vice President Sara Duterte joined overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Qatar on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, for a series of community events. The Vice President was accompanied by Senator Imee Marcos and her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, during a celebration organized by Filipinos based in Doha.

Senator Marcos shared her gratitude in a social media post: “Ako po ay naimbitahan, kasama ng ating Bise Presidente Inday Sara Duterte dito sa Qatar para sa isang mahalagang pagsasama-sama ng ating mga kababayan; napakasaya ko rin makasamang muli ang Nanay ni Inday, Mam Elizabeth Zimmerman.”
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) earlier announced Duterte’s scheduled engagements with members of the Filipino community in Doha, where she attended a thanksgiving mass at the Our Lady of Rosary Church and was expected to meet with OFWs later in the day.
Following her Qatar visit, the Vice President is set to travel to the Netherlands, where she plans to celebrate her 47th birthday on May 31 in The Hague. Duterte will participate in a peaceful gathering organized by various Filipino community groups in front of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The OVP confirmed that Duterte will meet with her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained in The Hague. Their meetings are scheduled for May 30 and again from June 2 to 3.
According to her office, Duterte chose to celebrate her birthday in the Netherlands after committing to accompany her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, to visit the former president.
The Vice President is expected to return to the Philippines on June 4.
Her appearance in Qatar with Senator Marcos and Zimmerman highlights her continued outreach to overseas Filipinos, even as political controversies involving her father continue to draw international attention. The events also mark a rare public reunion of the Duterte family amid the former president’s legal battles overseas.
