The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has officially announced the first four entries for its highly anticipated 51st edition, marking what many are calling a bold new era for Philippine cinema. Leading the pack is “Call Me Mother,” a comedy-drama helmed by acclaimed director Jun Robles Lana. The film stars box-office titans Nadine Lustre and Vice Ganda in a fresh and unexpected pairing that explores themes of identity, belonging, and chosen families.
Next is “Reconnect,” a heartwarming family drama directed by Jade Castro. Rounding out the first wave is the much-awaited horror anthology “Shake Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins.” The reboot of the beloved franchise boasts an all-star cast including Ivana Alawi, Loisa Andalio, Carla Abellana, Richard Gutierrez, and Francine Diaz. The film is co-directed by Shugo Praico, Joey de Guzman, and Ian Loreños, promising spine-tingling tales rooted in Filipino folklore and urban legends.
