Former Boxing Champion Ricky Hatton Found Dead at 46

Ricky Hatton, the former world boxing champion and one of Britain’s most celebrated fighters, has died at the age of 46.

Police confirmed that Hatton was found unresponsive at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, early this morning, September 14. A cordon remains in place outside his residence as officers continue routine inquiries.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers were called by a member of the public to attend Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45 am today, where they found the body of a 46-year-old man. There are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

Hatton, nicknamed “The Hitman”, rose to fame in the early 2000s, capturing world titles in both the light-welterweight and welterweight divisions. He was best known for his relentless fighting style, huge fan following, and memorable bouts against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

Born in Stockport, Hatton became a national hero, regularly filling Manchester Arena with thousands of supporters draped in Union Jacks. His victory over Kostya Tszyu in 2005 remains one of the most iconic nights in British boxing history.

After retiring from the sport, Hatton remained involved in boxing as a trainer and promoter. He was also open about his struggles with depression and substance abuse, becoming an advocate for mental health awareness.

Tributes have already begun pouring in from across the boxing world, with fans and fellow fighters remembering him not just as a champion in the ring, but as a charismatic figure who connected deeply with supporters.

Hatton is survived by his children. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
