Akbayan, Makabayan Lawmakers Release SALN

In a renewed call for honesty and openness in public service, progressive lawmakers from the Akbayan and Makabayan blocs have voluntarily released their Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs). The move, they said, is part of their continuing commitment to transparency and accountability in government.

On September 1, the Akbayan Reform Bloc publicly posted the SALNs of its members, underscoring the importance of rebuilding public trust through concrete actions rather than rhetoric. “Transparency and accountability are more than promises—they are obligations,” the group declared. “Public service is not about power or privilege. It is about earning and keeping the trust of the very people we are sworn to serve.”

Akbayan added that it will make the regular disclosure of its members’ SALNs a standard practice, urging all other lawmakers—particularly those in the House of Representatives—to do the same. As of July 1, 2025, the bloc’s declared net worths are as follows:

  • Dinagat Islands Rep. Kaka Bag-ao – ₱15,052,891.98
  • Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendana – ₱1,000,000.00
  • Akbayan Rep. Chel Diokno – ₱13,135,204.97
  • Akbayan Rep. Dadah Ismula – ₱3,245,045.91

Following Akbayan’s initiative, members of the Makabayan bloc also released their SALNs on October 17, citing the same principles of transparency and accountability. ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio, Kabataan Rep. Renee Co, and Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Sarah Elago made their wealth declarations public as part of their continuing campaign for clean and honest governance.

The Makabayan bloc went a step further by challenging President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, and all other government officials—both elected and appointed—to release their own SALNs. The lawmakers said this act would help restore the public’s faith in the country’s institutions and ensure that government leaders are held accountable for their finances.

Their declared net worths are:

  • ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio – ₱10,937,815.30
  • Kabataan Rep. Renee Co – ₱280,000.00
  • Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Sarah Elago – ₱1,039,600.00

Both blocs emphasized that genuine reform begins with transparency, urging all public officials to lead by example. By making their SALNs public, the lawmakers hope to set a higher ethical standard in Philippine politics and strengthen the culture of accountability in public service.
