Magnitude 5.7 Aftershock Hits Offshore Davao Oriental

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck offshore Davao Oriental on Monday evening, October 20, 2025, at 7:35 p.m., according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The tremor’s epicenter was located at 06.98°N, 127.45°E, or about 103 kilometers south 75° east of Manay, Davao Oriental, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

Davao Aftershock

PHIVOLCS identified the quake as tectonic in origin, meaning it resulted from the movement of the Earth’s crust rather than volcanic activity. The agency also clarified that this event was an aftershock of the October 2025 Offshore Davao Oriental Earthquake, which previously jolted parts of Mindanao earlier this month.

Despite its moderate magnitude, PHIVOLCS stated that no damage or aftershocks are expected following this seismic activity. Automatic monitoring systems recorded the event, and updates will be issued if significant developments arise.

Residents across Davao Oriental and nearby provinces may have felt light to moderate shaking, but authorities assured the public that there is no cause for alarm. Local disaster offices were placed on standby to monitor any reports from communities, though no incidents have been recorded as of this writing.

The Davao Region lies within the Philippine Trench, a known earthquake-prone zone due to its active tectonic boundaries. PHIVOLCS continues to remind the public to remain vigilant, review household earthquake safety measures, and participate in regular preparedness drills.

As of 7:39 p.m., PHIVOLCS confirmed that this was an automatic solution report, meaning it was generated immediately after detection. Further analysis will follow if more data becomes available.

No tsunami warning was issued in connection with the earthquake.
