The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released its official Weather Forecast for January 5, 2026, warning of widespread rainfall and possible flooding in several regions due to the combined effects of the Shear Line, Northeast Monsoon (Amihan), and Easterlies.

Weather Systems Affecting the Country
PAGASA reports that the Shear Line continues to affect the Visayas and the eastern section of Southern Luzon, while the Northeast Monsoon dominates most of Luzon. Meanwhile, Easterlies influence weather conditions over Mindanao.
Regional Forecast
Visayas, Bicol Region, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon
These areas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms due to the Shear Line. Residents are advised to prepare for possible flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous communities.
Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Palawan
Weather remains cloudy with scattered rains and thunderstorms, driven by the Easterlies, bringing risks of moderate to at times heavy rainfall that may trigger flooding and landslides.
Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Laguna, Batangas, and the rest of MIMAROPA
The Northeast Monsoon will cause cloudy skies with light rains, with no significant impact expected at this time.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon
Expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also influenced by the Northeast Monsoon.
Remaining areas of Mindanao
The weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the Easterlies, and severe thunderstorms may cause localized flooding or landslides.
