PAGASA Weather Forecast for January 8, 2026

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday released its nationwide weather forecast for January 8, 2026, warning of heavy rainfall in parts of Southern Luzon due to the prevailing Shear Line, while the Northeast Monsoon and Easterlies continue to influence the rest of the country.

Pagasa Weather

According to PAGASA’s morning bulletin, the Shear Line is currently affecting Southern Luzon, particularly the Bicol Region, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan. These areas are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms, which may result in possible flash floods or landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous communities.

Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) is influencing the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon. Weather conditions in these areas range from cloudy skies with light rains in northern provinces to partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in Metro Manila and nearby regions. PAGASA noted that no significant impacts are currently expected in these areas.

For the Visayas and Mindanao, the Easterlies are prevailing, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. While most of the region will experience generally fair weather, PAGASA cautioned that severe thunderstorms could still trigger localized flash floods or landslides.

Heavy Rainfall Outlook

PAGASA issued a heavy rainfall outlook for today, with expected rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 millimeters over Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon. Rainfall totals may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, and existing antecedent rainfall could worsen the impacts in vulnerable communities.

Local disaster risk reduction and management offices are urged to take all necessary measures to safeguard life and property. PAGASA’s Regional Services Divisions may issue Heavy Rainfall Warnings, Thunderstorm Advisories, and other localized weather updates as conditions evolve.

Wind and Coastal Water Conditions

Across Luzon, winds will be moderate to strong from the northeast, with moderate to rough coastal waters ranging from 1.8 to 4.0 meters, posing risks to small seacraft. In contrast, the Visayas and Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds from the northeast to north, with slight to moderate seas measuring 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

As of 6:00 AM, January 8, PAGASA issued the following General Flood Advisories:
