Netizens reacted to Rappler’s Pia Ranada’s statement that criticizing the government is the job of media members like her.
Reporter Pia Ranada of social news website Rappler received criticisms from several netizens for her statement that “criticizing the government” is her job as a member of media entity.
Her statement was posted on the official Twitter account of Rappler which said, “I respect the presidency, but that doesn’t mean that I will stop myself from criticizing his government because that’s what media is there for.”
In line with this, several netizens expressed their nonconformity to Ranada’s point of view regarding her duty as a reporter.
Pia Ranada talks about the ban against coverage, the string of threats, and the lonely business of reporting on the President. #DefendPressFreedom

For Twitter user @tweetybeauty, criticizing the government is supposed to be the job of a group within the government because outside from it only implicates shaming the President.
I think and believe that criticising should be done on close doors esp if its paid media. Otherwise there is no singleness of purpose. The intention will be to shame the President and our govt and our country???

In addition, Twitter user @yobentoi said that Rappler is unfair in criticizing the Duterte administration but it had been silent during the previous administration.
Where are you during Aquino’s term by the way? It looks like you are not consistent to what you said.

Pathetic @piaranada
Gusto magshowbiz? The reporter desperately wants to be reported, talked about. Attend acting workshop first and maybe you’ll improve.— Jimmy Alcantara (@JimmyAlcuntara) April 27, 2018
