Mar Roxas proved the existence of Rodrigo Duterte’s bank account.
Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas proved that the controversial bank account of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Rody Duterte really exist. On Thursday, the former DILG secretary showed proofs that he owned an account at the Bank of the Philippine Island (BPI).
During a press conference with the media and Inquirer, Mar Roxas said that she asked a member of his staff to deposit P500 in the name of “Rodrigo Roa Duterte” and his daughter “Sara Duterte” in Cubao, Quezon City Branch.
“What we discovered was the account really exists… Mayor Duterte lied again,” he told the reporters.
The issue was first exposed by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who claimed that presidential frontrunner has P211 million in his BPI account. Duterte has failed to declare the amount in his Statements of Assets Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) in 2014.
Reacting to the claims, Duterte said that the reports about his bank accounts was a fabrication. But on Thursday, he admitted that he had accounts in the bank branch, but denied that it contains millions. He also denied that it was joint account with her daughter.
“Earlier, he said the account was fabricated. Now he’s claiming it’s true. Can we still trust his pronouncements? Mayor Duterte, tell the truth. Our people deserve no less,” Mar Roxas further said.
Meanwhile, Trillanes said that he will withdraw from vice presidential race if Duterte proved that he is wrong. He also challenged him to file a libel case against him.
