Roxas believes he will win with or without Igelesia Ni Cristo’s support.
Former DILG secretary Mar Roxas said he is confident to win without the support of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC). The religious group is known as one of the boc-voting sects in the country that has over 2 million registered voters.
In an interview with GMA News, Roxas believes that he will be elected as the next president this May 9, noting that many local governments have pledged to support his candidacy.
According to the presidential candidate, the endorsement is not asked, but given. He also said that it would be a bonus to him if the influential group will support him.
“Ang endorsement kusang binbigay ‘yan. I don’t know to whom they will give it. I am [working] na plus na lang ‘yan kung dumating,” he said.
Roxas was made to react about INC’s endorsement after the incumbent president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino went to the central office of Iglesia Ni Cristo to meet with Eduardo Manalo, the Executive Minister.
The Chief Executive said that he shared his visions about when he steps down from the presidency. He also made “usual and political appeals.”
“Tapos parang sharing also the vision of sana what happens after I step down from office, usual appeals and political appeals,” he was quoated saying.
Noynoy Aquino is the chairman of Liberal Party who endorses Mar Roxas and vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo.
Meanwhile, Roxas is now statistically tied with senator Grace Poe on the latest Pulse Asia survey commissioned by ABS-CBN. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is still on the top spot.
